NORMAN V CASKEY
Norman V Caskey, 89, Boone, died March 8, 2003 of respiratory failure at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be 11 am Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church in Boone. The Rev. Jessica Jonston will officiate.
Burial will be a 2 pm Tuesday at the Dillavou Cemetery, northwest of Scranton, with full military honors by the Boone Veterans Council.
Mr. Caskey was born on Oct 20, 1913, in Council Bluffs. His adoptive parents were George and Fleda (Brown) Caskey. (Note: Orpha M Kinsey birth mother).
He attended District School No. 5, southwest of Glidden, and graduated in 1931 from Glidden High School.
He served in the navy during World War II. He was with the Construction Battalion. He received an honorable discharge in November 1945 as machinist's mate second class.
On July 3, 1926, he married Evelyn Linn in Glidden
After the service, he had a trucking business until the spring of 1949, when he moved to Baldwin, Wis, where he farmed for four years. In 1953, he moved back to Iowa and lived south of Jefferson and he also farmed north of Scranton for two years. He then moved into Scranton and bought a Skelley Tank Wagon Service and operated it for over two years. He then moved to Melcher and lived on an acreage and had a hatchery and raised chickens for over one year. He moved to Boone in 1961. He worked for the Junior College in Boone as a custodian and also drove a bus for the Boone Schools on the Mooingona Route. He worked for the Boone Schools as a custodian for 14 years and retired on June 1, 1976.
In 1978, he and his wife started a taxi business in Boone, that Mrs. Caskey operated for over four years.
After his wife's death on May 5, 1999, he married Mildred MacDonald on May 26, 2001, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home Chapel in Boone.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Boone, a member of the Mount Olive Lodge 79 AF&M of Boone, member of the Boone High Twelve Club 72, member of the Magi Chapter 139, Order of the Eastern Star of Boone and a member of the American Legion of Bone and Scranton.
He was preceded in death by two children, his first wife, one half brother and one half sister.
Survivors include his wife, one son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Becky Caskey of Boone; two daughters and son-in-law, Jacque and Tom Morkin of Marshalltown and Brenda and John Miller of Des Moines; two step-daughters, Nadine Williams of Cedar Rapids and Joyce Muff and her husband, Joseph of Dow City; one brother and sister-in-law, Keith and Darlene Caskey of Sun City, Calif; four half brohers, Ed Morgan of Emporia, Kan, Clarence Morgan of Kansas City, Kan, Harold Morgan of Wichita, Kan, and Garth Morgan of Colorado Springs, Co.; seven grandchildren, William Miller and his wife, Cathy, of Manley, Neb, David Miller and is wife, Julie of Runnells, Cassie Dozier and her husband Dean, of Jefferson, Karen Morkin of Des Moines, Jason Caskey of Boone, Ryan Caskey and his wife, Jennifer, of Boone and Jonathan Caskey of Boone; four great-grandchildrwn, Zachary and Miranda Miller of Manley, Neb, Morgan and Quinn Miller of Runnels; three step-grandchildren Lori Ann Miller and her husband, Sean of Vinton, Jeffrey Williams and his wife, Ruth of Troy Mills, Josh Paige of Dow City, and four step-great-grandchildren, Danielle and Derrick Williams of Troy Mills an Austin and Conner Miller of Vinton.
Visitation will be until 9 pm today at the Schroeder-Walter Funeral Home at fifth and Story streets. The family will be present from 6 to 8 pm with Masonic rites at 2:30 pm at the funeral home by the Mount Olive Lodge 79 AP&AM of Boone. Visitation will continue from 9:30 am until the time of the service on Tuesday.
Memorials may be given to the family to be used at their discretion.
