Ernie married Geneva Mellott in 1940. They lived the majority of their lives in Everett, Washington,with the exception of Ernie's military service in Japan, and when he operated an Exxon Gasoline Station on Anaheim, California.

They were married 66 years when he passed away nine days before Ginny in Providence Hospital in Everett.

They had three children: Fred, Anita and David. There were seven granchildren and at least fifteen great-grandchildren.

Ernie worked in the aircraft industry the most part of his career, with many of the years in the industry as Plant Manager for Castle Industries. Ginny worked for Safeway for ove 25 years as a meat wrapper, even though she had gone to school to become a hair stylist.

He was the grandson of Peter and Gjertrud Brevik, and John J Dahl and Martha Dahl.
