|Birth: ||Jul. 23, 1827|
|Death: ||Oct. 9, 1862|
Son of John Blean and Elizabeth Kilgore.
Married Hettie Jane Weakley 12 Feb 1852.
There is some discrepancy concerning James Hill Blean's death date. All sources acknowledge he died from wounds incurred during the Civil War Battle of Perryville, Kentucky. Most sources, including muster rolls summaries, say James Blean died on Oct 8, 1862. Evidently this was what the family also thought, for when Hetty J (Weakley) Blean filled out a "Widow's Declaration for Army Pension," July 7, 1863, she gave the death date as "on or about the eighth day of October 1862." However, the Adjutant General reports that James Blean had enrolled Aug 11, 1862, and "died with wounds Oct 9th 1862." Therefore Hetty Blean's pension of $15 per month was dated beginning Oct 9, 1862. Most tellingly was a declaration on Apr 17, 1864, from John E Bennett, Col 75th Reg Ill Vol Infty who certified that "By satisfactory evidence and an accurate examination of the Records of Death in the Descriptive Book of Co "B" in the Regiment, it appears that on the 8th day of October 1862 the said 2nd Lieutenant James Blean being engaged in Battle with the enemy at or near a place called Chaplin Hill in the State of Kentucky, received a gunshot wound in the leg, and that he afterwards received a gunshot wound in the head in the ? engagement, and died from the effects of the same the 9th day of October 1862." The above information can be found on www.Fold3.com: Widow's Certificate File Number WC 22994. There are a total of 36 images in the file.
