J. J. Davis was a well known farmer of Rockingham County. He departed this life on September 8, 1968. Mr. Davis was a member of the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church in Elkton, Va., where he served as an honorable deacon and also as treasurer. In 1918, he married the former Miss Gertrude Williams, who survives. On the 28th day of May 1968, he celebrated his 50th anniversary.

Mr. Davis was well known to the public, and a very religious person. Besides his wife, Mrs. Gertrude Williams Davis, who survives, he is survived by 9 daughters and 4 sons. One who departed his life in the year of 1948.

Surviving are: Mrs. Evangeline Butler, of Washington, D.C.; Mrs. Ruth A. Davis, of Elkton, Va.; Mrs. Annie M. McKeithan, of Island Ford; Mrs. Meldora William, Mrs. Carena V. Moore, Mrs. Irene Carter, all of Elkton, Va.; Mrs. Jurlene Jackson and Mrs. Dorthea Sanders, also of Elkton, Va.; Jesse Davis, Matthew Davis, Russell Davis, all of Elkton, Va.; and Robert R. Davis, at home. Also surviving are one sister, Mrs. Lillie Thomas, of Richmond, Va.; and one brother, Osby Davis, of Elkton, Va. He leaves 43 grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. this afternoon, at the Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, in Elkton, Va., by the Rev. K. K. Watkins and Rev. Floyd Fulk, of Broadway. The burial will be in Dovel Cemetery.
