Thelma R. Kallock, 89, of 257 North St. died Sunday at a Manchester, N.H., hospital.
She was born in Buxton, a daughter of Henry D. and Mary Pease Rowe, graduated from Fryeburg Academy in 1929 and attended Gorham Normal School.
Mrs. Kallock taught school for 26 years. She taught at Cousins School in Goodwins Mills, the one-room Union School in Dayton, four years in Biddeford and 20 years of third grade at Saco's Sweetser and Young schools.
Her husband of 51 years, Irving Kallock, died in 1991.
She worked at Eastern Slope Inn, North Conway, N.H., for 13 years before moving to Bar Mills, and lived for the past 48 years in Saco.
She attended First Parish Congregational Church and served as president of the ladies group, Madisses. She was a member of the Saco Juvenile Grange and a member for 20 years of the Saco River Grange Hall at Bar Mills, and held various offices including two years as master. She was a member York County Pomona Grange, Maine State Grange and National Grange.
Mrs. Kallock was an Avon representative for 11 years in Saco. She enjoyed gardening, making quilts and knitting, and made her own patterns for sweaters and mittens, including the one-finger hunter's style.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. George (Helen B.) Hilton of Candia, N.H.; three grandchildren, Vicki Hilton, Susan Dinardo and Christopher Hilton, all of Manchester, N.H.: and four great-grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday. Burial will follow in South Buxton Cemetery.
