1915 August 10 - OBIT: Rockville Tribune - Randolph Phillips, son of William and Harriet Phillips, was born near West Union Ind., August 9, 1837; departed this life August 1, 1915, age 77 years, 11 months, and 22days.
Jan. 22, 1863, he was united in marriage to Miss Matilda J. Bishop. To this union were born 11 children, all of whom are living except William F., their first born, who died May 11, 1894 and Mrs. Rachel Ellen Farner, their second child, who died May 11, 1888. Randolph Phillips never united with any church, but it was the writer's privilege to talk with him on the subject of religion many times during the last year of his life. During this time he read much in the Bible and other religious works. His conversation showed that he was seeking eternal life in the Saviour.
Randolph Phillips was a kind husband, a good father, quiet and unassuming in his manners, and a well respected citizen. The community shares in the loss of Randolph Phillips, but bows in humble submission to the will of the Supreme being.
Beside his wife, he leaves one brother, Benjamin, 19 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.
The funeral service was held at Linebarger chapel, conducted by Rev. Airhart of Greencastle, assisted by G.H. Linebarger of Rockville. The burial was made in Linebarger cemetery.
