His career included acting and radio announcing, but he was best known as a female impersonator and for his impressions of film stars such as Bette Davis, Joan Crawford, Tallulah Bankhead, Carol Channing and Katharine Hepburn. He spent his youth in Watertown, New York. Beginning around 1944, he worked at local radio station WWNY, playing the Hammond organ and acting in radio dramas. He was once described as a "male actress" and "the Master and Mistress of Surprise or Disguise." His professional engagements took him to London, New York, San Francisco, Miami Beach, Los Angeles and Chicago. In the mid-1990s he retired and later died of the effects of cancer and a stroke. He gave all his scrapbooks photographs, programs, recordings and videotapes to the Performing Arts Library of Lincoln Center, New York. (bio by: Vincent Astor)
