Born Tadeusz Komorowski - the name 'Bor' was orginally his codename in the underground. Became Commander of the Home Army (Armia Krajowa) in Warsaw in 1943 and led the Warsaw Uprising, August-October 1944, on the failure of which he became a prisoner of war. His claims in his autobiography that the Home Army supported the Jewish population and opposed its deportation have been hotly contested. (bio by: David Conway)
