From Her Obituary in the New Bern Sun-Journal:

Mrs. Kathleen Smith Gillikin, 73, of New Bern, died Thursday, January 26, 2006, at Craven Regional Medical Center. She was the daughter of the late Mary Woolard Toler and Whit J. Smith Sr., and the stepdaughter of the late Monie A. Toler.She was a lifelong member of Bridgeton Methodist Church. There she served as the secretary and treasurer for many years and was a part of the Bridgeton Methodist Women's Society. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Bridgeton Ladies Auxiliary and a founding member of the Bridgeton Rescue Squad.

For many enjoyable years, she was the branch manager of First Citizens Bank. She worked diligently at the Fort Totten and Highway 70 East branches. Her last place of residence was at the Courtyards at Berne Village. She had such a special bond with the staff there and considered them to be an extension of her own family.

Preceding her in death was her husband, Dewey Gillikin Jr.

She is survived by two daughters, Sandra Gillikin Thomas of Ludowici, Ga., and Freda Gillikin Thomas and her husband, William Dell "Tommy" Thomas, of New Bern, N.C.; one son, Haywood Douglas Gillikin and his wife, Susan B. Gillikin, of New Bern, N.C.; one brother, Whit Smith Jr. of Washington, N.C.; six grandchildren, Chad Jones, Jamie L. Long, Hayley E. Gillikin and Silas "Si" G. Gillikin, all of New Bern, N.C., Brittany K. Thomas of Ludowici, Ga., and Walter E. Thomas Jr. of Texas; and four great-grandchildren, Taylor E. Jones and Tanner S. Long, both of New Bern, N.C., and Taylor Harris and Jordan Thomas, both of Ludowici, Ga.
