Jack was the first child of John W. Varney, III and Elma Mae Campbell Varney of Alexandria. He was a United States Navy Veteran, a retired Educator, and a lover of life, laughter, reading, music, dance, sports and play. He was the dear brother of Carol Ann Varney, and the beloved friend and partner of Jerry Thornton.
Jack earned the B.A. degree from University of Wisconsin at Superior, the Master of Arts and Master of Education degrees from University of Arizona. He taught in Tucson's Sunnyside School District, and at Pima Community College.
He was a 5th Great grandson of Captain James Campbell of Scotland, Maryland and Virginia. His 2nd Great grandfather,William Varney emigrated from London, England arriving at New York on the ship "Columbia" on 22 Sep 1835, and settled in Loudoun County, Virginia. His Great grandmother, Mary Ellen Gunsallus Haynes was descended from Spanish and Dutch ancestors. His Great grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Urbach Varney was the child of German immigrants.
Jack valued his life! He was profoundly generous and loving to his friends & family! He celebrated his rich ancestral heritage, which is a hallmark of his gifted being!
