James E. Woodford passed away unexpectedly on September 15, 2010. Jim was born February 20, 1947 in Barberton where he lived most of his life. He joined the Navy right out of High School and served in Vietnam. Jim was the co-owner of Skoops Ice Cream in Barberton and also enjoyed his job at Tenable Security. He enjoyed time on his computer or a book in his hand. He spent many nights with his friends at computer meetings. He was preceded in death by his father, Dale Woodford and his grandmother, Zelpha Franks who was also a twin. Jim is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Beverly; mother, Martha Chapin; twin brother, Jack (Linda) Woodford of New York; sister, Judi Zirinski of Kansas; sons, Robert (Tonya) of Michigan, Ryan (Eleonora), U.S. Navy; daughters, Pamela (David) and Patricia (Paul) of Barberton; ten grandchildren and a great- granddaughter; special friends, Jerry and Lila Smith of Doylestown and Paul and Pat Bush of Grand Island, N.Y. Jim will be dearly missed by his many nieces, nephews and friends. Family will receive friends Sunday from 1 to 4 at Cox Funeral Home, 222 Norton Ave., Barberton. Committal service will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Rd. in Rittman. Attendees should meet at the cemetery promptly at 10:45 a.m. on Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 5455 N. High St., Columbus, Ohio 43214.
Jim was a good friend of mine. We worked security together at a local hospital back in 2002. That's where we met. We stayed friends ever since. He came over to fix my computer and we went to car shows together. Jim was an honest guy and anyone would feel proud to be his friend. I know I was.
