| Birth: | Nov. 25, 1825 | | Death: | Aug. 28, 1891 |  Civil War Union Brigadier General. He served first as Colonel of the 1st Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, then as Colonel of the 35th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He lost an arm at the Battle of South Mountain, Maryland, in September 1862. After recovering from the injury he was promoted Brigadier General and raised a brigade of African-American troops around New Bern, North Carolina called "Wild's African Brigade". After the war he became interested in silver mining and was superintendent of a mine in Nevada for a time before going to South America. (bio by: Ethan F. Bishop)
