| Birth: | Sep. 22, 1829 | | Death: | Feb. 13, 1869 |  Civil War Union Brigadier General. When the Civil War began, he was a State Senator and president of the Indiana State Agricultural Society. He enlisted in the Union Army, was commissioned Colonel of the 15th Indiana Infantry and led a division at the Battle of Stone's River. Promoted Brigadier General in November 1862, he particapated the Battle of Chickamauga, Missionary Ridge, the Atlanta Campaign and Nashville Campaign. In August 1865, he asked to be relieved from duty and returned to Indiana. He again became president of the Agricultural Society in 1866 and served until his death.
