| Birth: | Apr. 5, 1822 | | Death: | Apr. 22, 1866 |  Civil War Union Brigadier General. During the Mexican American War, he served as an officer in Company B, 1st Pennsylvania Volunteers and assisted in the siege of Vera Cruz. At the outbreak of the Civil War, he organized the 48th Pennsylvania Infantry and was made Colonel. He commanded his brigade at the Second Bull Run, at Antietam and was promoted Brigadier General in September, 1862. In in June 1863, he organized the 39th Pennsylvania Volunteer Militia and participated in the Gettysburg Campaign. He organized the 149th Pennsylvania Infantry in 1864 and guarded the approaches to Baltimore and Maryland, until the expiration of his service.
