| Birth: | Dec. 21, 1832 | | Death: | Nov. 4, 1906 |  Civil War Union Brevet Major General, US Congressman. With the outbreak of the Civil War, he was a member of the New York State Senate, when appointed Colonel of the 150th New York Volunteer Infantry on October 11, 1862. He served with the 150th New York the entire war being promoted Brigadier General in December, 1864 and was brevetted Major General of US Volunteers, March 13, 1865. Following the war, he was elected as a Republican to the Thirty-ninth Congress and to the three succeeding Congresses, serving 1865 to 1873. In 1877, he was again elected as a Republican to the Forty-fifth Congress and to the seven succeeding Congresses, serving until 1893.
