| Birth: | Jul. 19, 1823 | | Death: | Aug. 30, 1886 |  Civil War Union Brevet Major General. He graduated from the US Military Academy in 1846, served in the Mexcian American War, resigned his commission in 1854 and became a Boston lawyer. When the Civil War erupted in 1861, he organized the 2nd Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment and was promoted Brigadier General in 1862. He led his brigades in the Virginia Campaigns from Cedar Mountain to Alexandria and for distinction, he was brevetted Major General of US Volunteers in April 1865.
