BIO LOVINGLY WRITTEN BY MY DEAR COUSIN Terri (Wright) Chester, daughter of Anna Ellen "Ann" King Wright.

Gradpa AJ (Americus Vespucous) was born August 2,1880 to Daniel and Elizabeth (Trigger) King. Mary Alice"Mayme" McDermott was born to William Henry McDermott and Mary(Ryan)McDermott on April 24,1880 in Mineral Point, Wisconsin.

AJ and Mayme were united in marriage on November 5, 1901 at St. Joseph Catholic faith and was a true believer in the church. When Americus was confirmed into the Catholic faith, he decided to drop the name "Vespucous" and took "Joseph" as his confirmation name. There after, he was known as "AJ" and Mary were members of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, Iowa. Eleven children were born into this union, five daughters; Marie Elizabeth, Agnes Lucille, Anna Ellen, Margaret Velrene, and Geraldine Dorothy King. Six sons; Edward Patrick, Lawerence Emler, Allen LeRoy, Joseph Arthur, Paul Raphael and William Daniel King.

Grandma and Grandpa farmed in Woodbury, Plymouth, and Cherokee Counties. They farmed for the past fourteen years near Quimby, Iowa with the assistance of their son, Paul. Grandpa used a thrashing machine and would also use it to work the fields plus others who needed it. Grandma would feed the huge amount of people who came to help with the thrashing.

Sundays mornings were spent going to church and coming home to fry chicken, baking homemade breads, pies, and cakes. The family enjoyed fixing a huge meal for their family and neighbors who came to visit. The Kings also enjoyed cards and games with the children. The tradition of huge family get-togethers have passed down to our generations today!

Grandma Mary "Mayme" King passed away on Feb. 6th, 1954 in her home in rural Quimby, Iowa after a two month illness at the age of seventy-four years. Mary had kidney infection, high blood pressure and was stricken with a stroke. She went into a coma and never came out of it. Mary and AJ were married 52 years.

Grandpa AJ King passed away May 21, 1954 at his daughter Jerry's home in Sioux City, Iowa after a 3 month illness of cancer and at the age of seventy-three years. People say he died of a "broken heart". Grandma and Grandpa are both buried at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in rural Anthon, Iowa.
