Lancaster (#JB 684) aircraft took off from Gransden Lodge, Cambridgeshire, on a night raid against the railway yards in Laon, France. 181 Aircraft were part of the mission, sadly 9 did not return home. JB684 was shot down by a night fighter and the Lancaster crashed at Conde-sur-Aisne, 12 Km E. of Soissons, France; all seven aircrew members perished.
The airmen killed in this aircraft crash were:-
RCAF Pilot Officer Edward Lloyd ALBERTS,
RCAF Pilot Officer George Robert BERKEY,
RAFVR Sergeant Sidney BOSWORTH,
RCAF Pilot Officer Joseph GRODECKI,
RCAF Pilot Officer William Robert OLIVER,
RCAF Pilot Officer Russell Arthur SALTZBERRY and
RAFVR Pilot Officer John Walker TONKIN.

Both Gladys and Nat were part of the war effort, and both survived Sidney by living until their 80's.

Sidney was unmarried.
