MRS. WATERMAN DIED AT HOME HERE SATURDAY

Haxtun Woman Was 70 Years of Age; Funeral Wednesday

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon for Mrs. Sophie Louise Waterman, wife of A.L. Waterman, who passed away Saturday morning at her home in Haxtun. Mrs. Waterman, who was 70 years of age, had been ill but a short time. Death resulted from a heart attack.

Mrs. Waterman was born August 30, 1870 at Osage, Missouri, the daughter of Carl and Sophia Krueger. Six years later the family moved to Blue Hill, Nebraska.

In 1892 she was married to William Waterman, and six children were born to them. One of the children preceded her in death. After the death of her first husband, Mrs. Waterman married Adolf Waterman in 1905. Four children were born to this union, all of whom survive.

In 1916 the family moved to Amherst, Colorado, in 1918 to Holyoke, and in 1933 to Haxtun, where Mrs. Waterman had since lived.

Mrs. Waterman was a faithful member of the Lutheran church throughout her life. She was baptized in the Evangelical Lutheran church in early infancy, and renewed her baptismal vow on the day of her confirmation in 1884.

Those who survive are her husband, Adolf Waterman; two sons, William and Louis Waterman, both of Haxtun; seven daughters, Augusta, living at home, Mrs. Barney Buss and Mrs. John Buss of Haxtun; Mrs. Edward Wehnes of Hastings, Nebraska; Mrs. Alvin Stroup, Sterling; Mrs. Louis Schnieder, Venango, Nebraska; Mrs. Harold Rodeman, Amherst. There are two brothers, Charles Krueger of Amherst and Louis Krueger of Haxtun; two sisters, Mrs. Emma Blum of Blue Hill, Nebraska and Mrs. Tillie Ellery of Denver. There are twenty-five grandchildren.

The funeral was conducted from the Church of the Brethren, by Rev. Joseph Hannewald, pastor of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Interment was in the Haxtun cemetery. The pallbearers were H. Papke, William DeBuhr, A.C. Heldt, Jacob Pope, Frank Schoen and L. Einspahr. Arrangements were by the Radford Funeral Home.
