Abigail Clapp Rice
Birth: Mar. 5, 1675
Norfolk County
Massachusetts, USA
Death: Jul. 6, 1713
Middlesex County
Massachusetts, USA

Abigail Clapp was born March 5th, 1675 in Milton, Massachusetts, a daughter of Ezra and Abigail Pond Clapp. She married Samuel King (alias Rice) on October 30th, 1693. They lived in Sudbury and were the parents of:

Peter b. 1695
Ezra b. 22 May 1697
Sarah b. 16 May 1699
Samuel b. 24 March 1701
Thomas b. 25 March 1703
Edward b. 4 August 1705
Elizabeth b. 29 April 1707
Mindwell b. 16 May 1709
Abigail b. abt 1711

The father Samuel Rice/King was born to Samuel and Elizabeth King Rice in Marlborough, Massachusetts on October 14th, 1667. His mother died shortly after his birth, and he was given to his uncle Peter King and his wife to raise. Thus, he became known as Samuel King instead of Samuel Rice. His children also took the name King, although in many records are listed with the surname "King (alias Rice)". They raised their family in Sudbury. At that time, Marlborough, a more westerly settlement was more prone to Indian attacks, so they may have felt safer living in Sudbury.
Samuel and his wife Abigail both died the same year, he on March 4th, 1713, and she on July 6th, 1713. The orphaned Rice/King children were placed under the guardianship of John Rice of Sudbury until his death in 1719, at which time John's son Moses Rice was named guardian of the younger children. Moses married Sarah King (alias Rice) in November of 1719.
