Letha Faye (Aldridge) Cassiday, 81 of Downing, Missouri passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010 at the Scotland County Care Center in Memphis, Missouri where she had been a resident since August 24, 2010.
The daughter of Elmer and her stepmother, Hazel Arvilla (Kelsey) Aldridge, Letha was born on February 25, 1929 in Terre Haute, Illinois. She was united in marriage to Vernon Omar "Jack" Cassiday on September 26, 1945 in Oquawka, Illinois and to this union three children were born, Elmer Ray, Walter Lee and Tammy Jo.
Survivors include her children, Elmer Ray (Sonny) Cassiday of Queen City, Missouri, Walter Lee (Pee Wee) Cassiday and wife, Karen of Monmouth, Illinois and Tammy Jo Buckallew and husband, Dannie of Lancaster, Missouri; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Elmer Dean Aldridge of Ft. Madison, Iowa and Joseph Ellsworth Aldridge of Tama, Iowa and other family members.
Letha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vernon Omar (Jack) Cassiday; 1 sister, Elaine McElroy and 1 brother, Herbert Aldridge.
Mr. and Mrs. Cassiday farmed in the Monmouth, Illinois area for many years before moving to Downing, Missouri in 1968. Letha was a certified food supervisor for the Schuyler County Nursing Home in Queen City, Missouri and the Twin Pines Care Center in Kirksville, Missouri. She later worked for the Lancaster Excelsior for a number of years and also was a volunteer for the Schuyler County Food Distribution Center and Clothes Room.
Letha was a member of the Downing Christian Church of Downing, Missouri and the VFW Auxiliary of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa.
Letha was a wonderful caring wife, mother and grandmother who gave of herself to others without hesitation.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri with Sonny Smyser, pastor of the Schuyler County Church of Faith of Lancaster, Missouri officiating. Music will be special CD selections of "In The Garden" and "On The Wings of a Snow White Dove". Pallbearers will be Billie Jackson, Troy Cassiday, Ernest Aldridge, Bryan Boyd, Jamie Smith and John Scurlock. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 16, 2010 between the hours of 6:00 and 8:00 p.m. at the Norman Funeral Home in Lancaster, Missouri. Memorials have been established for the Coffey Cemetery. Burial will be in the Coffey Cemetery, south of Downing, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Funeral Home of Lancaster and Downing, Missouri.
