Nancy (Taylor) White was born in Beaver Co, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Nancy/Agnes (McClelland) Taylor. The family moved to Richland Co, OH approximately 1825. She married John C. White, also of Richland Co, Ohio, in 1841. They had four children: Mary, Jonathan S, Sarah, and Margaret.

In 1860, John C White and Nancy White appeared in a list with other beneficiaries of Samuel Taylor in Richland County, Ohio. All of these beneficiaries appear to be siblings (and husbands of sisters) of Samuel Taylor.

On May 18, 1895, Alpharetta Taylor, as Mrs. W. L. Leonard, daughter of Johnston and Amy Taylor, wrote a letter to her uncle (John Sheffer, widower of Martha Jane McClellan, who died 1891). In that letter, she said: "Pa attended the funeral of his only sister at Norwalk last Sunday. Pa is the only one left of the family of 16 children."

Note that the 1860 list of beneficiaries of Samuel Taylor in Richland Co, Ohio contained 11, siblings, plus Samuel, plus Robert Taylor, the administrator, who was also a brother, comes to 13 children. Three are presumed to have died before Samuel.
