Charles Henry Eckler was born to George Washington and Mary Ann Hoffhein Eckler in German Twp., So. Bend, St. Joseph Co., IN. His Father's family had located there from Pine Grove, Schuylkill Co., PA about 1868. They eventually moved to Bertrand Twp. and Niles Twp. in Michigan. Charles' siblings were Albert Allen, Howard Harvey and Ida Mae. On March 20, 1897 in St. Joseph Co., IN - He was wed to Etta Mae Holmes Rupert. She came to the marriage with Three sons - Franklin J, Raymond Leroy and Robert Finley Rupert and a Daughter Maude Rupert. Charles and Etta became the parents of George Washington, Fred and Edna Mae Eckler. Charles was an employee of the French Paper Mill in Niles, MI. After the death of Etta Mae in 1928 - Charles married a neighbor widow lady - Nora Ryder Curtis (Frank Curtis) in May of 1939. They were both 66 yrs of age. Nora died in November of 1944 - Charles had died in December of 1943. Nora is buried beside her first husband at Silverbrook and Charles is interred next to Etta and daughter Edna Mae - also at Silverbrook. submitted by Cousin - Anita Rogers.

CHARLES ECKLER DIES; RITES FRIDAY
Charles H. Eckler, 70, painter and decorator who lived at 1004 Birch street, died at 1 Tuesday afternoon in the Berrien county hospital, Berrien Center, after an illness of three days.
He was born in St. Joseph county, Indiana, Oct. 10, 1873, and came to Niles 50 years ago. He married Etta M. Holmes, who died in 1928. In June, 1939, he was married to Mrs. Norah Curtis, who survives.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons--George of Niles, and Fred, Barron lake; five stepchildren, Frederick Curtis, Mrs. Elizabeth Edinger and Mrs. Lila Makepeace, Niles; Mrs. Florence Coleman, Buchanan, and Mrs. Ilah Christine, Allegan; a brother, Allen, of Niles, and three grandchildren.
The body is in Rutherford funeral home where services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 [illegible]. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
