Laura Sophronia Hitchcock, third child and eldest dau. of Jacob Hitchcock and Nancy Brown, b. July 10, 1827 (bapt. Aug. 24, 1829) at Dwight Mission to the Arkansas Cherokee then located in the Arkansas Territory northwest of present-day Russellville, AR.

Her parents were missionaries and teachers at Dwight Mission. Once the missionary children reached adolescence they were frequently sent back to New England to attend school. Laura Sophronia Hitchcock d. Dec. 10, 1843 while a student at Mt. Holyoke College at South Hadley, Mass. She is interred at Monson, Mass. in the Timothy H. Brown lot, her maternal uncle.
