STEWART, GROVER C. JR. died Sunday morning, April 21 2002. Preceded in death by his parents, G.C., Sr. and Tommie Ward Stewart, his sister, Glendyne Stewart Wigley and his daughter, Kathy June Stewart; Grover is survived by his wife, Carolyn, his daughter, Trink Karen Day Stewart and his beloved dog, Lady. Surviving children are: Trink's husband Ronnie Crouch, Anne & Charlie Smith, Dr. John and Mary Kay Guggedahl, Lynn & Michou Lopez and Nancy Guggedahl. He leaves behind grandchildren: Katreena, Danielle and Alexandria Crouch, Kyle Lopez and his fiance, Heather Willbrand, Matthew Lopez, Phoenix and Benny Odle and Marie Guggedahl. Born March 3, 1919 on a turpentine plantation in Odessa Precinct, Florida (near Tampa), Grover moved with his family to El Paso in 1926. He graduated from Austin High School having scored the first touchdown in McKee Stadium. Grover went on to the University of Southern California to major in speech and drama. He completed his degree at the University of New Mexico with his final six credits earned in civilian pilot training. For 16 years he flew DC-6's for American Airlines, retiring as Captain (a Grey Eagle) to join his father in their expanding lumber business. Grover established Southwest Moulding Co. in Dallas in 1951, importing Mexican lumber from his father in Durango, Mexico. He had mouldings manufactured on a custom basis in a small Dallas moulding plant, selling locally to retail lumber yards in the Dallas-Ft. Worth trade area. The group of companies began expanding in June 1953 with the opening of Maderas Selectas y Molduras, S.A. in Ciudad Juarez, ultimately including the following operations: Warehouses in Dallas, International Brick Company, Southwest Frame and Millwork Co., Stewart Moulding and Frame and the Bent Tree division in Denton, Texas. More recently Grover and Carolyn traveled extensively to places as: Hawaii, Africa, France, China, Israel, Egypt and La Jolla, California. During these past two years, Grover with Carolyn and members of their Church, conceived, planned and constructed the Stewart Family Life Center at Western Hills United Methodist Church. The center will be dedicated May 19. And six months ago, as a gift to long time golfers, Grover rebuilt the 9th and 18th greens for Coronado Country Club. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Dr. Byron H. Chesbro, his staff and the staff at El Paso Cancer Treatment Center. Pallbearers are: Dr. John Guggedahl, Michou Lopez, Ronnie Crouch, Charlie Smith, Kyle Lopez, Matthew Lopez and Benny Odle. Honorary Pallbearers are: Ricky Feuille, Bernie Lauterbach, Jack Rye, Bill Woodul, Charlie Newman, Bill Littlefield, John Eichelmann, Bill Squires,Russell Hill, Steve Lauterbach, Chama Mora, Jesus Torres, Antonio Cano, Raymond Baer, Bev Stras, Clinton Dean and Danny Swain. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Western Hills UMC Foundation or the Stewart Family Life Center at Western Hills United Methodist Church, 524 Thunderbird Dr., El Paso, Texas 79912. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday April 24 at Western Hills United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Memory Gardens of the Valley.
