Elloree - Bennie Bryan Bair, 86, of 611 Pickett Level Road, Elloree, died Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg after an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 28, at Elloree First Baptist Church in Elloree, with Dr. C. Clark McCrary III officiating. Burial will be in the Hungerpiller Cemetery, Horse Pond Road, Elloree, directed by Fogle-Hungerpiller Funeral Home of Elloree. Active pallbearers will be Russell Bair, Allen Bair, Howard Bair Jr., Timothy Bair, Terry Bair, Donnie Bair and Barry Zeigler. Mr. Bair was born in Calhoun County, Oct. 11, 1922, the son of the late Thomas Lafayette Bair Sr. and the late Minnie Lee Stroman Bair. He was a retired carpenter, having worked with Bair Construction Company. Mr. Bair was a member of Elloree First Baptist Church and a member of the Community Hunting Club. Survivors include his wife, Philathea Rourk Bair of the home; one son, Bennie "Buddy" Bair Jr., and Connie, of Patterson, La.; one daughter, Janice Bair Jones and Robert Jones of Elloree; two brothers, Howard M. Bair and Robert M. Bair, both of Elloree; two grandsons, Ronnie and Peggy McGee of Elloree, Danny Bair of Louisiana; two granddaughters, Susan and Mark Griffin of Elloree and Veronica Jones of Beaufort; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer Zeigler, Randy McGee, Kayla Griffin, Jared Griffin, Bethany Bair, Stormey Bair and Danny Bair Jr.; great-great-grandchildren, Kaylee Zeigler and Layliah Gautreaux; his special caregiver, Betty Felder. Mr. Bair was preceded in death by one brother, Thomas L. Bair Jr.; one grandson, Byron Bair and one great-granddaughter, Summer Lynn Bair. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. July 27, at the funeral home. Friends may call at the Bair Home, 611 Pickett Level Road, Elloree.
