Cecil Emerson Hoover was born on Dec. 20, 1904, at Murray, Iowa to Harry Arthur and Daisy Laura Blackburn Hoover. The family moved to Malvern in 1905, and Cecil has spent the remainder of his earthly life here.
On June 22, 1940, Cecil was united in marriage to Elva Mildred Arterburn, in Des Moines.
Cecil was a craftsman in sheetmetal, plumbing and heating. His life was devoted to his craft, he was proud of his craftsmanship, and he worked long and hard seeking to do the very best job he could in everything he did.
Many mementos of his trade survive him in the hands of family and friends.
Cecil loved to read, and he also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the United Methodist church in Malvern, and a veteran of WWII.
Cecil died on April 13, 1979, in the General hospital of the University of Iowa in Iowa City following a lengthy illness.
He is survived by his wife; by their daughter, Mrs. Ronald (Linda) Perkins, of Walnut; by two grandsons, Barry and Darcy; by one sister, Mrs. Alva (Mildred) Barrett, of Shenandoah; by three brothers: Vaughn of Malvern; Harry of Emerson; and Gene, of Sioux City; by other relatives and many friends.
Funeral services were conducted from the Mansfield-Hertz Funeral Home Monday, April 16, at 2 p.m., the Rev. Charles E. Cowell, Jr., officiant. Mrs. Gary Perkins was organist and she accompanied the soloist, Mrs. Ronald White, as she sang "How Great Thou Art." Mrs. Lynn Hoover was at the registry book, and flower ladies were Mrs. Darrell Frederickson, Mrs. Joe Hoover and Mrs. Herbert Hoover.
Casket bearers were Lynn H. Hoover, Joe Hoover, Wayne Boles, Herbert Hoover, Darrell Frederickson and Bill Arterburn.
Interment was in the Malvern Cemetery.
