Sadie was born 22 May 1868 of Beaver, Utah. When she was nine years old, she moved with her parents to Taylor, Arizona in 1877. From there to Snowflake, Arizona in Feb 1878, then on to Pima, Arizona in 1884. She was about 17 years old when she moved on into Mexico with her parents in 1885. Four years later, on the 10th of Oct 1889, she married Martin Mortensen, Sr. in the Logan Temple, coming back to Mexico, then moving to Thatcher before Leo was born in about 1893.

She was always acive in church activities, and at socials, she and her sister Hariet (Hattie) sang so well together from early childhood.

Sadie and Martin raised their family in Thatcher, Arizona and helped them in going to school, living there near a good academy. Most of the children went on from there to higher schools and have taken thier places among the teachers in colleges and univesities, and have been active in the church. These are the things their parents had in mind for them and worked so hard to help them do. They were true Latter-day Saints and loved by all who knew them.

The Mortensen home was a home for many relatives and friends. Boys and girls desiring to go to school, they took them in with the family, not expecting much pay, but to help them in getting an education. We all loved them and still are influenced by their lives. We are so happy to have Sadie come to our home which she did often. She seemed a second mother to me (Mae).

They were set apart Temple workers for many years. "Uncle Mort" passed away 11 Feb 1936. "Sister Sadie" died on 19 July 1954. Their children gave them the tenderest loving care, always mindful of their conforts until the last. (From "The Ancestors and Descendants of James Gale", by Mae Gale Wilkins McGrath, page 32.
