| Birth: | Dec. 13, 1835 | | Death: | Sep. 5, 1922 |  Civil War Union Brevet Brigadier General. Entered the Civil War as the Chaplain of the 32nd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry, but abandoned his religious capacity to command troops in combat. He was successively the Lieutenant Colonel of the 40th Wisconsin Infantry, then the Colonel and commander of the 49th Wisconsin Infantry. He was brevetted Brigadier General, USV on October 24, 1865 for his "meritorious services". After the war he returned to his religious vocation, eventually becoming a Bishop in the Reformed Episcopal Church.
