Mary Ann Miller Last Rites
"Funeral services were held Oct. 12 at Bridgeport, Calif. for Mary Ann Scanavino Miller, long a well known resident of the area.
Mrs. Miller was one of a family of twelve children born on the Scanavino ranch 10 miles from Bodie, Calif. March 14, 1893. Widowed in 1933 at the old County Farm with six small children, she devoted her life to their education and well being. In October, 1947, a fire destroyed the house and family belongings at the farm. She spent the remainder of her life in Bridgeport. For many years she was a member of the Auxillary to Mark Twain Post No. 454, The American Legion.
Surviving are all of her children, Carrie Ward, and Evelyn Epperson of Los Angeles, William of Oregon, Mary Hoag, Kenneth and Florence Miller of Bridgeport. Also surviving are two sisters, Theresa Leavitt and Idelle Thompson of Stockton; her brothers Steven of Hawthorne and Paul of Reno; also four nieces, four nephews and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Edward Brown and burial was in the Bodie Cemetery. Pall bearers, all lifelong friends, were: Daniel Bryant, Victor Cain Jr., Arthur Dechambeau, Jack Scieroni, Gordon Bell and Manuel Caruso."
