Ada Blanche Niswander, 88, of Knoxville and formerly of Keswick, died Thurs., Jan. 8, 2004, at Comfort House, Hospice of Pella, following an extended illness.

She was born on Oct. 21, 1915, northwest of Millers-burg, the daughter of Harley and Sylvia Jordan Cover. When she was nine her family moved to Wisconsin. She graduated from high school in Necedah, Wis. in 1932 and attended Kansas City Wesleyan College and Coe College. She began teaching in Gibson in 1937, where she taught for four years. She was united in marriage to Lowell C.
Niswander at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, on Dec. 24, 1940. They farmed in the Keswick area and moved into Keswick in December of 1994. She was a member of the United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for many years, was a founding member of the Thornburg Friendly Garden Club and was an avid cake baker. She became a resident at West Ridge Care Center in Knoxville in April of 2000.
She is survived by a son Larry of Grinnell; a daughter, Merna Furney of Knoxville; three grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother Harley Cover of North English; and two sisters: Gladys Geyer of Albia and Kathryn Striegel of Phoenix, Ariz.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and a sister, Helen Grimm.
Funeral services were held Mon., Jan. 12, at the Keswick United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Dick Smith and Don Ridenour officiating. Burial was in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg.
A memorial fund has been established for the Keswick United Methodist Church, the First United Methodist Church of Knoxville and Hospice of Pella.
