Anna Louise Adkisson was born in Illinois, January 4, 1868, and passed away on the eve of February 1, 1930, aged 62 years and 27 days.
At the age of four, she moved with her parents, Elijah and Christian [sic, Christine per census] Adkisson, to Butler County, Nebraska.
On September 10, 1883, she was united in marriage to Elgene Washburn of Rising City. To this union thirteen children were born, four daughters and nine sons. One daughter, Mrs. Edith Soul, and two sons, Hubert and Leonard preceded her in death. Those surviving are: Mrs. Con Hartford, Mrs. Fred Kruse and Bernard of Palmer; Mrs. Harry Clark of St. Paul; Lester, of Phillips, Nebr., Bryan of Casper, Wyoming; Herschel of Brighton, Colorado, and Elijah, Dewey and Clifford, who live in California.
Mr. and Mrs. Washburn moved to Howard County in 1894, locating seven miles east of St. Paul, in Gage Valley.
In her childhood, Mrs. Washburn became a member of the Methodist Church, but later united with the Christian Church.
On May 10, 1924 she was married to William Strebel of Wichita, Kansas.
She had a kind and loving disposition, and was liked by all who knew her.
She had been in failing health for several years.
She leaves to mourn her departure, her husband, an aged mother, three daughters, seven sons, three brothers, Elijah and John, of Rising City, Nebr., and William of Farnem, Nebr.; twenty-two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
The remembrance of her life and deeds is greater than any monument that could be erected for such a true Christian woman.
