Berend Bakker, Early Lumber Worker, Dies
Berend Bakker, 81 years old, 616 Apple avenue, an early resident of the community after coming here from The Netherland and a retired employee of the Lakey Foundry and Machine company, died Sunday at his home after a long illness.

Born Nov. 17, 1868 in The Netherlands, he came to America and Muskegon at the age of 16 years. He was employed for many years in the community's lumber industry prior to taking employment with the local foundry. He retired in 1929.

He married Feb. 4, 1890 to Miss Kate Timmer in Muskegon. Mrs. Bakker died July 10, 1930. He was a member of the Allen Avenue Christian Reformed church.

Me leaves two sons, Barney of Muskegon and John of Grand Rapids; one daughter, Mrs. Fred Buchholz of Muskegon, and nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
