Civil War Union Army Officer. He served as a 1st Lieutenant and commander of Battery I, 1st United States Regular Artillery. He was mortally wounded July 3rd, 1863, while repulsing Pickett's Charge at Gettysburg. His unit monument stands in Zeigler's Grove next to the Cyclorama Center. (bio by: Ethan F. Bishop)

George Woodruff was a graduate of the U. S. Military Academy at West Point, Class of June 24, 1861. A summary career biography of him is given in entry #1948 in Cullum's Biographical Register of the Graduates of the Military Academy; it is online.
