Joseph Thomas Woodward, son of William and Marietta, was born on Nov. 5, 1867 at the Woodward homestead in Honey Grove, PA. When he passed away at the St. Joseph's Hospital in Joliet, IL he was 79 years, one month, and 15 days old. On Dec. 22, 1898 he was united in marriage to Mary Helen Peck of Terre Haute, IL. Mr. and Mrs. Woodward had no children but took into their home a baby girl who lived but a short time and baby boy, Walter, who survives.

Mr. Woodward is survived by two sisters, Mary Woodward of Honey Grove, PA and Mrs. Nancy Thompson of Altoona and many nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by five brothers and one sister, his wife Mary Helen passed away on Aug. 25, 1935. In his early life, he was engaged in railroad and farm work; he was a memober of the Modern Woodmen of America. Mr. Woodward was especially faithful in his relations to his Sabbath school class, and was also a member of the Stronghurst United Presbyterian Church. At the time of his death, he was living with his son Walter and wife and two grandchildren Laura Lynn, and Karen Lou who reside at Joliet, IL.

Fineral services were held at the Mellor Funeral Home in Stronghurst on Thursday, Dec. 26th in charge of W. A. Service of the Terre Haute Methodist Church. Comforting songs were sung by Mrs. Mildred Rickey, accompanied at the piano by her sister, Lucille Rankin. Interment was made in the Terre Haute cemetery. Pallbearers were Edward Bowen, Oliver Crane, Harry Fox, Lem Logan, R.A. Ingerson and C. M. Bell.
