Last Rites Tuesday for Mrs. Eva Brown
Funeral services for Mrs. Eva Brown, early day resident of Salida, were held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Chapel of the Vision of the Stewart Mortuary, Officiating clergyman was the Rev. John S. George of the First Christian Church.
John Held, accompanied by Jolene Van Meter, sang "Beyond the Sunset" and "Abide with Me."
Pallbearers were Cecil Kaess, Henry Richardson, Oren Masingale, Norman Eggleston, Fred Vaughn and Weldon Richardson. Burial was in Poncha Springs Cemetery beside the body of her husband, the late Eli Bert Brown.
Mrs. Brown, a native of Bengora, N.Y., where she was born August 1, 1876, came to Chaffee county 60 years ago. She homesteaded on the first ranches in this area. Stricken while visiting relatives in Pueblo, several weeks ago her health continued to decline and she died Saturday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Grace Surber.
Survivors are seven children, Mearl Brown, Willis Brown, Mrs. Grace Surber, Mrs. June Surber and Mrs Bud Massingale of Salida, Mrs Lloyd Rawlings, Paradox, Colo. and Mrs. Leslie Bennet of Pueblo. She leaves nine grandchildren, four great grandchildren. A brother John Fish of Salida and two sister, Mrs Alma Spriggs of Salida, and Mrs. Perry Dickerson of Kansas City, and a number of nieces and nephews. All of her children were here of the service.
Other relatives from out-of-town attending the services were a grandson, Edwin Brown of Twin Falls, Idaho, three granddaughters. Jerry Jean Bennett of Grand Junction, Evelyn Surber of Fort Collins, and Mrs. Phillip Dougherty and husband of Climax, a nephew, Earl Springgs and wife of
