Mr. Andes was born April 20, 1928, in Timberville, and was a son of the late Jacob H. and Mary Kelley Andes.
He graduated from New Hope High School and retired from DuPont in 1985 after 32 years. He was also a part-time farmer and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Church of the Brethren. He served in the Army and was a volunteer for Heifer International. He was a cabinetmaker and woodworker.
On May 20, 1949, he married, Hazel Bulle, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Nancy Hanger of Keezletown , Fred Andes of Staunton, Sharon Leaman of Harrisonburg, Steve Andes and Pamela Andes, both of Grottoes; two sisters, Ethel Frazier of Grottoes and Virginia Goethe of Florida; a brother, Everett "John" Andes of Grottoes, and 16 grandchildren.
The Rev. John W. Click will conduct a graveside service 11 a.m. Thursday at Middle River Church of the Brethren Cemetery
There will be no public visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge Area Food Bank Network, P.O. Box 937, Verona, VA 24482, or the Grottoes or New Hope Fire Departments or Rescue Squads.
Arrangements are by the Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.
