Arthur Hartley Wilson Sr., M.D., son of William Henry Wilson, Sr. and Maude Amelia Brown Wilson, succumbed to this life Saturday,January 18, 1992 at his home in Windsor CT. He was born in Hartford, May 11, 1916 and attended Hartford Public Schools where he excelled in athletics and played minor league baseball. He graduated from Virginia Union University and received his M.D. degree from Howard University Medical School. While studying at Howard, he pledged and became a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity. He served as a Captain in the Medical Corp for the U.S. Army during World War II and also participated in the European and African campaigns. He was awarded the Bronze Star. After the war, he returned to Hartford and provided private medical practice. He provided health care for thirty-five years. He was known for his dedication and compassion to those he served in hospitals, in homes, and his office. In 1990, he was honored by the Americus Georgia Social Club for his outstanding community service.
He leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Jane A. Wilson and Charlotte E, Wilson; a brother, William H. "Billy" Wilson Jr.; three sister-in-laws, Edythe DeLoach, Barbara Nappier, and Betty Hall; one brother-in-law, Lawrence Harris; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by a loving wife, Gladys Harris Wilson and a son, Arthur H, Wilson Jr.
"He was a very loving and devoted father and husband who made many sacrifices. Not only was he a terrific father, but he was a great friend. He was always sought out by many for advice and help.
Even though he will be sorely missed by all of us, it's comforting and peaceful to know that our father is with the Lord, and he's at rest."
