Actor. Born William Glenn Shadix in Bessemer, Alabama, he began performing in Birmingham theatres and made his film debut with a bit part in "The Postman Always Rings Twice" (1981). His best known role was that of the obnoxious interior designer Otho in Tim Burton's horror-comedy "Beetlejuice" (1988). Shadix became close friends with Burton and the pair worked together in two more films, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" (voice only, as The Mayor, 1993), and the remake of "Planet of The Apes" (2001). He is also remembered as Father Ripper in the 1989 cult classic "Heathers". His other credits include "Sleepwalkers" (1992), "Demolition Man" (1993), "Dunston Checks In" (1996), and epsiodes of such TV shows as "The Golden Girls", "Roseanne", "Seinfeld", "Cheers", "The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air", "ER", and "Jackie Chan Adventures". After living in Los Angeles for many years, Shadix returned to his native Bessemer in 2007. The actor lost his house and belongings in a 2008 fire and suffered from poor health in his last years. He died of injuries sustained in a fall at his home. (bio by: Michael Cannon)
