Civil War Union Brevet Major General, Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Colonel of the 118th Pennsylvania Infantry at The Battle of Gettysburg. Brevet Brigadier General. He was serving as Colonel of the 114th Pennsylvania Infantry At Fredericksburg, Virginia, on December 13, 1862, when he earned the Medal of Honor. His citation reads: Gallantly led his regiment in battle at a critical moment. He was awarded the medal on March 10, 1893. (bio by: Ethan F. Bishop)
