Richard C. "Dick" Stoughton, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, September 05, 2010, in Crystal Care of Mansfield following a long illness. He was 86.
Dick was born November 21, 1923 in Mansfield to William H. and Ruth (Arehart) Stoughton, and remained a lifelong area resident.
After high school, Dick joined the U. S. Army Air Corps and served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre, where he was awarded two bronze campaign stars.
Dick retired in 1985 from Westinghouse as a machinist after more than 43 years of employment and was a member of the Westinghouse Veterans Association.
A selfless and generous man, Dick always wanted to do for others. He attended Berean Baptist Church, and loved hunting, The Cleveland Browns, Ohio State Football and Indy Car Racing, having attended the Indy 500 for 49 consecutive years. But most of all he loved his children and grandchildren.
He was a 32 degree Mason and was a member of the Mansfield Masonic Lodge #35 F&AM, Chapter, Council, & Consistory. He was also a member of Richland County Scottish Rite Valley of Canton, Baku Grotto, Eagles Lodge, Order of Owls Nest #152, AMVETS Post #26, and Mansfield Liederkranz.
A loving father and grandfather, Dick is survived by a son and daughter-in-law Tom and Linda Stoughton; two daughters and son-in-law Patricia and Gary Wooldridge and Sandra and Roy Little all of Mansfield; three grandchildren Lori Frost, Larry Caudill and Brooke Hull; five great grandchildren Owen Lipscomb, Morgan, Adyson, and Mason Frost and Nathan Caudill.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor E. (Brandt) Stoughton on July 16, 1991: a brother William Stoughton and his lifelong friend Dick Stark
