Born in Young Township;a son of William & Susanna nee Miller Long. James was a carpenter by trade;a contractor and builder in the Punxsutawney area,doing business under the name of James K. Long & Son. He was also a member of the Lindsey borough council before that town was incorporated with Punxsutawney.
He enlisted during the Civil War with Company B,74th Pennsylvania Regiment.
He was married to Mary E. Bath.
James & Mary were the parents of:
~ Maude,the wife of George Glenn,of Punxsutawney;
~ Alice,widow of George Murray, at home;
~ Annie,wife of Del Lockard,of Cleveland,Ohio;
~ Charlie Long,who died in 1914;
~ William B. Long,of Punxsutawney;
~ Edna J. Long,at home;
~ Clarence Long,of Marion,Ohio.
