Pfc. John Deso, 26, Accorded Military Honors At
Rites On Monday With full military honors, funeral
services for Pfc. John Deso, 26-year old Purple Heart veteran of World War II who was killed in a motor vehicle accident at Kassel, Germany,on August 15, were.conducted Monday morning at ten o'clock at Chazy,
Escorted by Pfc. Ferdlnando Mendoza as guard of honor, the body had arrived at the Clark Funeral Home at Champlain last Saturday,and services were held from there.
Rev. George Brisson, pastor, celebrated a high Mass of requiem at the Sacred Heart Church at Chazy,and burial followed in Riverside,Cemetery at Chazy, with delegations from four American Legion posts In the county participating in committal services. The firing squad from the Champlain post fired a volley, and a bugler from the Rouses Point post played taps. Plattsburgh Post No. 20 and Chazy's Russell B. Childs post also were represented at the rites, among the largest held at Chazy In recent years.
Pallbearers, all members of the Champlain post, were Lionel Trudeau, Maurice Gload, Leslie Burl,Marshall Matott, Joseph Fillon, and James Jubert.
Pfc. Deso, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Deso of Champlain, had re-enlisted in the Army last Spring at Plattsburgh for service in the Army of Occupation. A veteran of four major World War II campaigns, Africa, Sicily, Italy (including Ahzfo) and Southern France, he had the Purple Heart with four Oak Leaf Clusters. Serving
with the Third Infantry Division for nearly three years, he was wounded five times. He had enlisted in the Army in 1939.A native of Champlain, pfc. Deso was unmarried.
