A Folwer High School graduate, she was married to singer Sam Cooke from 1953 to 1958. She did not change her name to Cooke when he did. After divorcing Sam, Dolores moved to Fresno. She died in a single car accident after a night of drinking. She was survived by a son, her mother and grandparents in Fresno and Texas. Her former husband paid for her funeral and burial in Fowler.
