Sept. 27, 1976: Markita King is born to 15-year-old
Patricia King. The oldest of six children, Markita grows up
in Tulsa with her mother, who never married and relied on
welfare to survive.
May 4, 1987: Patricia King dies as a result of
complications from general anesthesia administered during
an abortion in Tulsa. Markita is 10 at the time. After her
mother's death, she was raised by relatives.
Early 1990s: Markita King meets Edwin Bell in high
school while she was living with her father and his family

April 1994: Markita King, 17, gives birth to her first
child, Ebony Bell, at Midwest City Hospital; she also moves
in with Bell and his family.
October 1994: Markita King, 18, tells Oklahoma City
police that Edwin Bell shot her in the leg. The two were
living in an apartment with their baby. The couple
described the incident to police as an accident.
1996: Markita King gives birth to her second child,
Essynce Bell.
May 1998: Markita King, 21, gives birth to her third
child, Marjonna Bell, at Presbyterian Hospital in Oklahoma
City.
Unknown date: Markita King moves with her children into

Feb. 12, 1999: Roshanda Watkins finds her sister Markita
