James Burnison, son of James and Mary Burnison, was born April 20, 1852 in the state of Ohio and passed away May 25, 1940, in Kansas City, Kansas, at the home of his daughter. Mrs. Edith Brown, aged 88 years, 1 month and 5 days.Mr. Burnison came to Onaga in 1884 where he lived until 5 years ago when he moved to Kansas City with his daughter, with whom he made his home for about 30 years. He was united in marriage in Sarah Elizabeth McComas on Dec. 25, 1878, and to this union four children were born, two sons, who preceeded him in death, and two daughters, Mrs. Mellia Case, Stella, Mo. and Mrs. Edith Brown, Kansas City, Kansas.

Mr. Burnison was converted and united with the Congregational church of Onaga about 50 years ago, where he remained a member until the time of his death. His wife having preceded him in death several years ago, he is survived by his two daughters, five grandchildren, one great-grandchildren, and many friends.He was a kind and loving father, always doing his best for his family and trying to bring up his children in the right way. He will be sadly missed by the family and all who knew him. Funeral services were held in the Tessendorf chapel on Sunday, and burial was in the Onaga cemetery.Those from out of town attending the funeral were: Joseph Stauffer, Mrs. Arthur Hurst and children, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Close, all of Holton; Mr. and Mrs. Ed Murdock of Centralia; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Mensch and son, Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Tabler, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Price, Mr. and Mrs. Will Tanner and Mrs. Walter Lines, all of Wamego; Mrs. L. W. Vanderburg and children, Mrs. A. J. Hill and children, Mrs. Vera Blair, Mr. and Mrs. Hober Edwards and daughter, Rev. W. J. Hereford and wife, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Buckles, Mrs. H. F. Duncan, Earl Brown, Mrs. Martin, Mr. and Mrs. Theodore Pollock and Mrs. Gertrude Brown, all of Kansas City.

His wife Sarah Elizabeth McComas was the daughter of Sanders W. McComas and 2nd wife Nancy Boydston McPike McComas, both buried Circleville Cemetery, Jackson Co. KS.
