H.F. Knuth of the Westcliffe Hardware Co. left Monday for Sonora, Mexico, where he goes to investigate first a mining proposition and later agricultural land. Helmuth is conservative and will look twice before he leaps. Fred Moore, of Ilse, went with him and will see what is to be seen there.

WMT dated Aug 15, 1924: H. F. Knuth, after an illness of about ten days, passed away at his home in this city on Sunday morning last at 8 o'clock, aged 52 years 4 months and 27 days. The deceased had been raised in this valley and was known to a wide circle of friends who will deplore his demise. In his youth he resided with the family in the valley where he assisted his father with his farm work and stock raising business. Some years later he engaged in the hardware business here with his brother-in-law, August Rasch. He later acquired Mr. Rasch's interest in the business and conducted it as sole proprietor until about a year ago when the stock was sold to the Westcliffe Trading company. Since that time Mr. Knuth had been engaged principally in looking after his ranch & stock interests. Mr. Knuth served our county as a member of the legislature, being elected as representative to the 19th general assembly. He had also served as town trustee. Surviving are the widow, a son, Harold, at home and two daughters married, Mrs. Leslie [Wesley] Koogle and Mrs. Irwin [Irvin?] Curtice. There are also surviving five sisters -- Mrs. Peter Koch residing in Canon City, Mrs. George Baker, Mrs. Robert Eikelman and Mrs. Amanda Georges, residing in this valley, and Mrs. Perkins residing in California. The funeral was held from the family home in town at 10:30 Wednesday morning and from the Lutheran church at 11 o'clock, the service largely attended, being conducted by the Rev. Otto Heerwagen. Burial was in the Ula cemetery. Business houses drew their curtains during the hour of the funeral. The following old-time residents acted as pallbearers: Herman Hanssen, B. C. Briggs, Joseph Kiesler, Louis Mueller, G. B. Beardsley, J.F. Schneider.

Helmuth built the feed store and house across the street from the feed store in Westcliffe, Colorado. Built the feed store and house across the street from the feed store in Westcliffe, Colorado.

After reading your bio of Helmuth I was surprised to see a marker for him next to Bertha. When the excellent staff at Crown Hill told me he was buried on July 10, 1947 it was a lot of things including poignant that he had been transferred so as to be next to her. I added a picture of the grave marker to his page. robin
