Theodore J. "Ted" Lakocy, beloved husband of Carol (nee Tonry), beloved father of Thomas (Michelle), Lynda Snyder (Mrs. Mark), Laura and Leslie, grandfather of Melanie, Matthew and Alexander, brother of Thelma Dechant and Raymond.
Mr. Lakocy, a lifelong resident of Elyria, graduated from Elyria High School in 1951 and from Ohio University in 1955 with a degree in electrical engineering.
He served as a pilot instructor in the US Air Force at Reese Air Force Base in Lubbuck, TX. He attained the rank of captain.
Mr. Lakocy was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church in Elyria, the Rochester Gun Club, the Lake Erie Sport Fisherman's Club, Alcoholics Anonymous and several real estate organizations.
He formerly belonged to the Elyria Rotary Club and the Elyria Jaycees.
He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, and was a loyal fan of Elyria High School athletics.
Mr. Lakocy began working for Accurate Electronics Corp. in Elyria in 1958 as an engineer. A year later, he became plant manager, serving in that capacity until 1970.
He also held the 7th Ward seat on Elyria City Council and served on the Lorain County Regional Planning Commission and the Lorain County Board of Elections in the 1960s.
In 1967, the Elyria Jaycees named him Outstanding Young Man of Elyria and presented him with their Distinguished Service Award. In 1970, Theodore J. (Ted) Lakocy took over leadership of Elyria's oldest and largest real estate firm, Lehman-Johnson Gallery of Homes. He brought with him excellent credentials as a leader in business and government.
