George C. Carlisle, 73, of Hillsdale, passed away Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at his home. He was born September 19, 1936 in Hillsdale to Lewis & Mary (Fenstermaker) Carlisle. He was married November 17, 1956 to Suzanne Folger and she survives.
George retired from the Hillsdale Community School, he was the Industrial Arts Instructor and the Work Study Coordinator. George was a graduate of Hillsdale High School in 1955 and a graduate of Michigan State University in 1960. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Hillsdale Elks Lodge #1575. George started the wrestling programs for the Hillsdale and Jonesville school systems. He was avid sportsman and golfer.
Surviving besides his wife Sue are 3 children, Sara (Jim) Desmond of Coldwater, David (Betsy) Carlisle of Austin, Texas and Chris (Suzanne) Carlisle of Canton, Michigan; 5 grandchildren, Brittni Desmond, Shane, Ryan, Clair and Nicholas Carlisle; a brother, Glenn (Sharon) Carlisle of Jonesville.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Dora Brown and Judy Mann; brothers, Ora, Darrel, Robert and Clyde; and a grandson, Kyle Desmond.
There will be a memorial mass for George Carlisle Friday, August 13, 2010, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Anthony Catholic Church with Fr. Thomas Butler as celebrant. Interment will follow at St. Anthony Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation Thursday from 6-8 p.m with a prayer vigil service at 7:00 p.m., at St. Anthony Church. Arrangements are entrusted to the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.
