Edwin Louis Rumpf, Jr., 83, of Irvington, AL, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2010. He was born December 19, 1926, in Galveston, TX, the eldest child of Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Rumpf. After serving his country in World War II, Ed graduated from Auburn University. He and his family later returned to the Irvington area where he co-founded and jointly owned Specialty Contractors & Associates, Inc., of Mobile, AL, and Gulfport, MS. Ed was active in a Mobile Mystic Society, the Optimist Club, and was a trustee of First United Methodist Church of Bayou LaBatre, AL. Ed was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-one years, Myrtle Bosarge Rumpf; his parents; and his infant daughter, Emily Beth. He is survived by his children Jane Rumpf Dennis (Dave) of Pass Christian, MS, Edwin L. Rumpf, III, of Irvington, Scott Rumpf of Ocean Springs, MS, and Sylvia Rumpf Hall of Austin, TX; grandchildren Kate Dennis and Padrick Dennis of Pass Christian, Lora Knight (Alton), Elizabeth Endres (James), Jenna Drews (Joey), and Victoria Rumpf, all of Irvington, and Brandon Hall of Austin; seven great-grandchildren; sister Joy Rotner (Mel) of Escondido, CA; brother-in-law Charles Rose (Elaine) of Ocean Springs; long standing family friend, Pat Johnston; and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held at the chapel of Serenity Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 7, 2010, with visitation from 12 p.m. until 2 p.m. and funeral services immediately following. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery in Bayou LaBatre, AL. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the Auburn University School of Architecture, Design, & Construction or the American Diabetes Association.
